Description
Xiangyunsha (Gambiered Guangdong Gauze)
The “Soft Gold”: A Masterpiece of Nature and Craft
Xiangyunsha, known as “Soft Gold,” is a legendary intangible cultural heritage. This fabric is not merely dyed; it is a co-creation between nature and man, utilizing the unique “Three Steaming, Nine Boiling, Eighteen Drying” process.
The Process:
- Preparation:Utilizing high-quality mulberry silk and juice extracted from the Dioscorea opposita vine (rich in tannic acid).
- Dyeing:The silk is repeatedly soaked in yam juice and dried under the scorching summer sun, gradually deepening in color.
- The Reaction:At dawn, river mud rich in iron ions is applied to one side of the fabric. A chemical reaction occurs, turning the coated side a lustrous black, while the uncoated side retains a reddish-brown hue.
Characteristics:
- Unique Texture:One side is black and shiny; the other is warm brown.
- Benefits:Refreshing, soft, waterproof, anti-moth, and durable.
- Legacy:A “Black Shining Pearl” in fashion, tracing its roots back to the Ming Dynasty.
Xiangyunsha Care Instructions
To maintain the unique texture and luster of Xiangyunsha, please follow these guidelines strictly:
- Washing:Hand wash only. Do not machine wash or dry clean.
- Use water below 30°C for 5-10 minutes.
- Use neutral or silk-specific detergent (avoid alkaline soaps).
- Gently squeeze; do not wring or twist.
- Drying:Lay flat or hang to dry in a cool, ventilated area. Never expose to direct sunlight.
- Ironing:Use low temperature (110-150°C) with a pressing cloth or steam. Keep the iron at least 1cm away to avoid “aurora” discoloration.
- Storage:Hang to avoid folding. Use natural cedar blocks for moth prevention (avoid camphor balls). Follow the principle of “Wear more, wash less.”
